Recreation and Leisure
For those parents who are interested in including their child with special needs in a specific recreational activity, there is an opportunity to do so. It is often difficult to have your child with a disability included in an after school or weekend activity. This program can provide the assistance needed through hiring college work-study students and working with the places where activities occur. Supervision is provided by the Recreation and Leisure Coordinator as well as by the family. The Recreation and Leisure Coordinator also has a list of local organized teams through Special Olympics. We have also developed a guide called Recreational Opportunities in Strafford County which lists local activities and places to visit. This guide was accurate at time of being printed, but be sure to call ahead and make sure nothing has changed. We also assist families in meeting the expense of providing summer recreational opportunities through community programs and summer camp.
